Authorized psychologist

The title psychologist in Denmark is a protected title. Only persons who hold the degree Cand.psych. or an equivalent degree in psychology are entitled to use the degree psychologist in Denmark.

The title authorized psychologist in Denmark is also a protected title. Authorisation is not mandatory for the practice of psychology in Denmark, but it is requested within certain areas of work. Persons with a degree equivalent to the Danish degree in psychology, can apply for authorisation provided they have completed the supplementary two years of practical education after graduation and provided that they have applied first to the Supervisory Board for recognition of their qualifications from abroad.

How to apply?

Application for authorization requires the completion of an application form, which contains general information, and documentation from the applicant for the completion of the supplementary, practical education. The board has made available both application form as well as forms for documentation of practical experience and supervision. The forms are in Danish and are available online:

Requirements for non EU citizens and businesses

The same requirements apply as for EU citizens and businesses.


The fee is currently DKK 1500 for authorization as a psychologist.

As of this point the fee is not required prior to the application. If we issue you authorization, you will receive a decision with information on how to pay for the authorization.

When we receive the fee, we will send your certificate of authorization as a psychologist.

When can I expect an answer?

The average processing time for authorization applications is 8 weeks at this point.

In case of rejection

Decisions of the Secretariat of the Danish Supervisory Board of Psychological Practice may be brought to the members of the Danish Supervisory Board of Psychological Practice. The members of the Danish Supervisory Board of Psychological Practice will then decide whether or not they will access the decision of the Secretariat.

The decision of the Danish Supervisory Board of Psychological Practice cannot be appealed to another administrative authority in Denmark.
