Keepers responsible for mink farms

A farm with mink shall initially be registered by the owner at the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The person responsible for the keeping of mink must have completed a course regarding mink, approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

Whereas permanent work must be approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration temporary work must only be notified.

Information on experience regarding the rearing of mink is required. No particular forms.

Temporary or occasional pursuit

A person who wishes to be keeper of a mink farm on a temporary basis or as an occasional pursuit, must notify the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration. The notification must be renewed on a yearly basis.

The notification must contain the following information:

  1. Name
  2. Home address
  3. Potential address in Denmark

The first notification must be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. Proof of nationality
  2. Certificate from the competent authorities in the country of establishment, that the applicant is legally established in the country to exercise the profession in question

Certificate from the competent authority of the country of establishment, that the service provider has not received permanent or temporary ban or similar to exercise the profession in question.

Establishing a business

A person who wishes to be responsible keeper for a mink farm on a temporary basis or as an occasional pursuit, must apply for approval from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.

The application must be accompanied by the following documents:

  1. Proof of nationality

A copy of a course certificate or diploma, which gives the right to exercise the profession in the home country of the applicant and any relevant proof of work experience within the field

Requirements for non EU citizens and businesses

The same requirements apply as for EU citizens and businesses.

No fee required.

When can I expect an answer?

The decision on whether or not to issue an authorisation will be made as soon as possible after all necessary documents have been received. Normally you can expect to get an answer from The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration within four weeks.

In case of rejection

If The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration decides to reject your application for authorisation, you will receive a reasoned notification. If you disagree with the decision to refuse your application, you have the right to appeal. The deadline for submitting an appeal is four weeks from date on which the decision was announced.

Public registers and databases

All farms with 20 or more fur animals are registered in the Central Husbandry Register (CHR).

Legal basis in Danish law

Ministerial Order No. 1319 of 23 November 2018 on education of persons, which keepers of in mink farms, and education of persons, which are directly supervising the killing of fur animals on fur farms.
