European defence industrial initiatives

The Danish Business Authority works to ensure Danish interests in European defence industrial initiatives

The European Defence Fund

The Regulation establishing the European Defence Fund was adopted in May 2021. The purpose of the Fund is to establish better conditions for member states to co-operate on research, development and the acquisition of defence equipment and to ensure an open, innovative and competitive European defence industry.

The European Defence Fund will allocate roughly EUR 8 billion over a seven-year period from 2021 to 2027.

Denmark participates fully in the European Defence Fund despite the Danish defence opt-out. This is because the European Defence Fund is based on Article 173, 182, 183 and 188 TFEU regarding “Industry” and “Research, development and space”.

The Danish Business Authority supports the Danish Ministry of Defence in the work to ensure Danish interests in the programme committee for the European Defence Fund.
